Detailed Information
The art of brace making and splinting traces back to ancient battles, but it was only in the late 1940’s that orthotics began its most significant contributions largely in part to the world war and polio epidemics of the time. Though innovations in material and construction continued to occur throughout the twentieth century, many of the conceptual orthotic designs remain the same today. These outdated designs were simply not well suited to treat and address the common conditions presented in the pediatric community, largely cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders. Realizing that the pediatric population deserved its own focus on orthotic designs specific to their needs, the challenge of creating a pediatric specific design came to fruition with our D-DAFO patent in 2005 and again with our nighttime dynamic Roosterboot 2
While the D-DAFO and Roosterboot 2 have become the backbone of our company’s offerings, the knowledge obtained in the development of these patented products has allowed us to carry over these valuable lessons to our other orthotic designs. This unique approach of continuous innovation with a focus on the utmost quality for our patients highlights our specialization and creates the foundation for our company within the medical community in West MI and beyond.
Throughout the many changes of our company’s existence, our goal has always remained the same; provide the highest level of orthotic patient care while recognizing that each patient is an individual with distinct orthotic needs. To do so, it has become necessary to buck the industry trends of outsourcing and central fabrication. Pediatric Orthotic Specialists understands that each patient, despite similarities in diagnosis or presentation, is unique. Our orthotists interact closely with each one of their patient families and collaborate with physical therapists, physicians and other providers in an effort to assure no patient is receiving a “one size fits all” approach.
